———————————

ANCHORAGE, AK – 20-year old Alaska indie folk/pop artist Ava Earl’s career has been on an upward trajectory: she opened for Maggie Rogers while still in high school, released 4 albums by the time she was 18 and The Roses (2021), produced by GRAMMY-nominated JT Nero, had several songs were featured on Spotify editorial playlists, with “Mountain Song” amassing more than 100,000 streams.

That almost came to a halt when she experienced a sudden and permanent single-sided deafness in her right ear. A shocking diagnosis, it not only affected her physical, but mental well-being as well. Her second single “Ears Bleeds” brings closure to a journey that saw her through a rollercoaster of emotions ranging from anger to intangible grief.

“After going deaf in my right ear, I was left with emotions that took months to unravel, sort, and explain,” says Ava. “Six months in, I thought I had come to a semblance of peace when this song tumbled out of me, surprising me with a pain that was still so palpable.”

This is the second single from her forthcoming album, Too Much, produced by JUNO-winner Zachariah Hickman and recorded at Great North Sound Society in Maine. The album champions a new sound––one that breaks away from previous recordings while staying close to Earl’s unique writing style. Thematically, the album takes us through Earl’s journey of early adulthood, including the concept of being “too much.”

Too Much will be available on September 15th, 2023 (PRESAVE).

Ava Earl's new single “Jealous of Her” out now / Announces New Album

Happy release day to the incomparable #Alaska artist Ava Earl!! Her new single “Jealous of Her” is out now!

———————————

ANCHORAGE, AK - The phrase, “Ava, you are a lot,” has been a familiar refrain in the life of Alaska singer-songwriter Ava Earl. Uttered with loving amusement by her parents, mild frustration by more than one teacher, and joyful admiration by a few key mentors, this notion of “being a lot” is at the heart of her forthcoming studio album, fittingly titled, Too Much.

Today, Ava Earl shares the first single from the album “Jealous of Her,” a song about coping with unrequited feelings. “In many of my songs, I like to take real life inspiration, and elevate it to a place somewhat outside of reality, and that’s what I did with this song,” explains Ava.

The verses are pretty grounded, and consider the downfalls of this hypothetical relationship, but the chorus is more fictional,

“I fantasize about being with someone only to make the object of my affection jealous. The fabrication of truth heightens this contrast, turning it into a contest: It’s a competition like it’s always been / I wish that I could make you jealous of him.”

Having opened for the likes of Maggie Rogers while still in high school and releasing four albums by the time she was 18, Earl has already solidified herself in the Americana scene as an emerging artist. She made a big step up in 2021 with her album The Roses, produced by GRAMMY-nominated JT Nero. Well received by Americana UK, Holler, and American Songwriter, several songs were featured on Spotify editorial playlists, with “Mountain Song” amassing more than 100,000 streams.

Too Much continues on this path. Produced by JUNO-winner Zachariah Hickman and recorded at Great North Sound Society in Maine, the album champions a new sound––one that breaks away from previous recordings while staying close to Earl’s unique writing style. Rooted in lyrical rock, there are tracks that evoke the pop sounds of Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, and Gracie Abrams, while others hint at Americana artists Phoebe Bridgers, Elliott Smith, and Laura Marling. Thematically, the album takes us through Earl’s journey of early adulthood, including the concept of being “too much.”

Too Much will be available on September 15th, 2023.

New Single "Acronyms" by Ava Earl Out Now!

———————————

June 21, 2023 - Chicago, IL — Alaska singer-songwriter Ava Earl has released an introspective new single, “Acronyms,” available now on all streaming platforms. Written in a quarantine dorm during her freshman year of college, it’s a song of self-discovery and self-acceptance following her then-recent ADHD diagnosis.

“In true ADHD fashion, I found it very hard to concentrate on my studies while in isolation, but very easy to write songs,” Ava said. “Acronyms” is her first new music since 2021, and it offers fans a gentle prelude to her much anticipated album, which is produced by Zachariah Hickman and set for release this fall.

“I tend to write songs that help me understand myself and ‘Acronyms’ certainly falls into that category,” Ava said. “It’s sort of a wistful sounding song, and that’s fitting because there’s both relief and sadness in my diagnosis. I find solace in accepting who I am, but it’s disheartening that embracing my true self feels like an act of rebellion—and it’s always felt that way.”

The single, also produced by Zachariah Hickman, captures the song’s essence masterfully. Opening with just Ava and her guitar, she sings, “I take one pill to shut me up / I take another for good luck / and start my day.” Soon we learn she has her mother’s blessing to medicate—something 18-year-old Ava doesn’t need, but perhaps wants—and strings enter, elevating the song and Ava’s journey to loving herself as she is.

“Try so hard to comprehend / undress my brain, sit in my head / and take red pen to all of the mistakes / but the truth is I won’t change / even though I know I'm strange / I am honest to a fault but that’s a good thing”
It’s the earnestness listeners have come to know and appreciate from this young artist. Her 2021 album, “The Roses,” produced by GRAMMY-nominated JT Nero received positive reviews from outlets like Americana UK, Holler., and American Songwriter. Ava was also featured in Spotify’s curated playlists Fresh Folk, Wanderlust, and Contemporary Folk, amassing over 100,000 streams on her song “Mountain Song.”

As a teenager, Ava also wrote and co-produced three full-length albums. An engaging
performer, Earl thrives in a live concert setting, drawing audiences in with her music and stories. Highlight performances over the years include opening dates for Maggie Rogers, Rhett Miller, and Tim Easton.

Ava Earl releases title track from upcoming album 'The Roses' — Premiered by Underground Music Collective

Thank you to Underground Music Collective for premiering Ava Earl’s newest single, “The Roses",” the title track off her upcoming album The Roses (out July 23). Produced by JT Nero (Birds of Chicago) and features background vocals by Allison Russell and Awna Teixeira.

People change, circumstances change and, with them, so do friendships. These evolutions can be confusing without proper context, and Ava Earl is here to help us make sense of them with her latest single, “The Roses.” — Underground Music Collective

IN AVA’S WORDS:

“At the time, I was struggling to figure out why our relationship was rocky, and the first part of the song is about me blaming myself. It took me a long time to realize that some people can be part of your life without having control over your emotions,” she said. “I have redefined a lot of friendships in my head just by framing it with the idea that I can have friends for different reasons, and that in some cases, being casual friends is a more beneficial relationship to both people; you don’t have to stay best friends with people just because that’s how it’s always been. Circumstances change, and so do people, and that’s what this song — and the album as a whole — are about.”

Ava Earl Featured on Spotify's Contemporary Folk Playlist

Thank you to Spotify for including Ava Earl’s newest single “Mountain Song” off her upcoming album The Roses (out July 23) on your Contemporary Folk playlist. Produced by JT Nero (Birds of Chicago) and features background vocals by Allison Russell and Awna Teixeira.

IN AVA’S WORDS:

““Mountain song” is actually not a metaphor, as I think a lot of people assume. While it would be an ample interpretation, this song is actually about a real life experience that I had when I was a bit too confident in my mountain climbing skills. I usually pride myself in my spontaneity, but this experience reminds me that caution is a necessary consideration. A friend and I ended up climbing up what we later learned was a rock climbing route on a very steep Alaska mountain. We managed to make it down safely, but it took many hours and it was not without its tragedy. This song is also about understanding my lack of control in the universe. I am at peace with the fact that I can only control my actions and nothing more, but I sometimes forget that the consequences of my actions are not under my domain.”
